SERIOUSLY. The mind-melting awesome starts about ten minutes into the first episode, has reached Beyond The Impossible levels by the third episode, and ONLY GETS MORE EXTREME FROM THERE.

Just when you think it can't possibly be any more awesome--just when you think the characters can't possibly be any more baddass--just when you think they can't possibly go any further beyond the impossible--THEY DO. SPECTACULARLY. Every single time. And for some reason, it never gets old, not even if you troped the entire thing on its head and spoiled yourself for every death and monumental occasion in the entire series beforehand.

The steady spiral of awesome finally cumulates in a humongous mecha that is 10 million light-years tall and is capable of using galaxies as throwing stars.

GALAXY SHURIKENS, PEOPLE.

GALAXY. SHURIKENS.

And okay the animation for episode 4 was a bit iffy and the handling of gender wasn't spectacular and the fanservice is a little over-the-top but NO ONE REALLY CARES BECAUSE IT'S JUST SO AWESOME.

No other series has ever left me so SATISFIED. I mean, it's finished. That's it. It was a cohesive story with a beginning, a middle, several climaxes, and an end that really felt like an end. I don't feel like there's any subplots left unresolved, except perhaps that one where Kinon and Rossiu--but never mind. It's satisfying. The final arc is so awesome, it won't leave that hollow "end-of-a-series" feeling because the hot blood fills it up.

So, this is my official message: WATCH TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN!! It's really nicely animated, well-thought-out, all the characters are so lovable, it's both insanely hot-blooded and insanely heartwarming at the same time, and it will actually make your brain melt out of your skull because of the pure and unadulterated awesome that all the characters radiate. THEY WIN FIGHTS ON IT. IT'S STATED. "TO WIN FIGHTS ON THIS SHOW YOU MUST BELIEVE YOU CAN WIN...BELIEVE!" THAT'S WHAT THEY SAY!!!

And it's only 27 episodes long! It hardly ever takes itself seriously and has been described as "something to watch if you love old-fashioned schlock done right". It's kind of like an ultimate shoutout to the entire mecha anime genre, only multiplied by 10^epic and pumped full of hot blood.

And it doesn't matter if you can't stand mecha anime, because I can't either, and I loved this series! ^_^ It's so over-the-top and mindbendingly awesome, it doesn't really matter.

IT IS A VERY GOOD SHOW.

And @#%$ me, I love Rossiu! I know Kamina's kind of supposed to be the ultimate Estrogen Brigate Bait and the mascot of the entire series, but I love Rossiu! Maybe it's just my thing for ponytails, maybe it's his heart-wrenching subplot and two-minute-long romantic interlude, but either way I can't get enough of him. Om nom nom.

Also, BOOTA. BOOTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
